Web Page and Blog Design
It seems that everyone is creating web pages and blogs these days.
Unfortunately, very few people have the critical components that include technical skills, business experience, and design expertise to build, implement, and maintain effective business web sites.
To create a website, communication with the client is essential. Things to consider include:
- written agreement (includes labor for time creating overall plan and timeline, to design phase thru creation and testing phase).
- special features? (ie., guest book, chat room, message boards, forms, database integration, E-commerce, security).
- How many people will be involved in the web team? (possibilities include the client, a project manager, content manager, graphic artist, programmer, quality control testers, marketing, etc.)
- who will host the site? (based on anticipated traffic, amount client can afford per month, what level of service and reliability is needed, what kind of data needs to be logged for site traffic reporting).
- candy features?(rollover buttons, dropdown menus, video, etc.)
- how many images and who supplies them?
- how will 'change orders' be dealt with? (change this, add this, move this, etc. that varies from the initial planned sketch).
- maintenance and updating (whose going to do it?)
- As the site develops, it is almost guaranteed the client will want more on their site than originally thought and therefore will take longer than anticipated.
