Welcome
Letter
For Parents and Students
Please print a hard copy of this letter and do not lose it.
(Audio, Part 1) I’d like to personally welcome you, and will be emailing at least once a week to keep in touch, as well as posting and updating the Announcement page on our website. In some cases, I will be also be phoning you and your parent/guardians just to touch base.
To begin, it is important that your computer is properly
configured to work in an online environment. It is strongly recommended that
you test
your pc to ensure it can read the following file types: Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Word/RTF, Excel,
AVI (audio) and MP3 (audio).
Please contact your instructor if you
have any questions.
In order to succeed in an online
environment, it is essential that you stay consistently, actively involved. It is also
important to understand our Attendance policy, which clearly states that 10
consecutive school days of non-participation can lead to removal or suspension
from class.
When you login to our online Management
system http://skoclass.org, always take time
to read the Announcements; check your E-Mail; check the Assessment/Gradebook;
and remember that the “Course Home” is the
direct link to all your lessons.
(Audio, Part 2) Upon selecting http://skoclass.org (prior to logging in) you will notice an Orientation link. If you are not familiar with our web site and its features, be sure to take the time to work through the tutorial.
Parents
and Students. I would recommend you and your son/daughter take about 10 minutes and work through two quick online activities. The first one is called "Is Online Learning for Me?". It is a brief survey (auto-graded) that looks at learning styles needed to succeed in an online environment to make sure this type of learning is a good fit for you. The second activity addresses a problem that is not uncommon in online learning --- plagiarism (cheating). It is important that both the student and parent/guardian understand our definition prior to beginning a course.
We strongly recommend you use Microsoft Word or Wordpad for your word processor. If you have Word Perfect or
Microsoft Works, you must save your work as an
RTF
file or nobody will be able to read it.
Please feel free to E-Mail me or call during working hours,
and I will make an attempt to get back to you the same day. I'm hoping to see
everyone complete this first "About Me" lesson within the first week
of their enrollment.
Happy computing, and good luck.
